South
Dakota
PROJECT:
Manhole Inspection/Rehabilitation
LOCATION:
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
SCHEDULE:
January 1992 - July 1992
PROJECT
BACKGROUND:
The City of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, identified inflow and infiltration
(I/I) in its sewer system. Defective manholes proved a significant contributor.
Defects ranged from leaking, vented manhole covers or failed frame seals
to manholes with severe structural deficiencies. Sioux Falls called on
Stockwell Engineers, Inc., a local engineering firm, to solve the sewer
problem.
PROJECT
SCOPE:
Stockwell Engineers retained Wade & Associates to provide direction
and support for a manhole rehabilitation project. Approximately 1,500
manholes in Sioux Falls were inspected using Wade & Associates forms.
The firm provided training and quality control for the inspection program.
Data was entered into Pipedream©, Wade &Associates' defect and hydraulic
modeling software. A repair schedule was developed from the model database.
Wade &Associates provided construction plans and specifications detailing
generally accepted rehabilitation methods for approximately 500 manholes.
Wade & Associates took care to provide bidders with precise plans
and details and clear, accurate specifications. Bids for construction
work came in under budget, allowing the City to expand project parameters
without additional funding.
